Introduction
In the modern energy industry, networks based on the Smart Grid concept are increasingly being developed. These are smart energy grids that solve two main problems in the electric power industry - to reduce losses and maintain a balance between generated and consumed electricity in real time (energy has no properties to store or accumulate). One of the elements of a smart energy grid is a smart electricity meter, which can determine and predict electricity consumption in homes and industries and provide information for analysis in real time over a wireless channel. This information is then used to manage generating facilities.
The problem or task
The task was to develop a smart electricity meter - a system for recording voltage, current, power and energy values in a 0,4 kV three-phase electrical network. It was necessary to transfer the measurement results via wireless ZigBee and GPRS channels. The information about the operation of the meter was received and processed by the concentrator.
Solution
To solve the problem, a Smart Meter was developed, which allows registering instantaneous voltage and current values, calculating power and energy in the electrical network. The hardware platform for the smart meter is the NI SOM platform installed on the mezzanine board. ZigBee and GSM / GPRS data transmission modules were connected to the mezzanine board. The software developed in the LabVIEW programming environment using LabVIEW FPGA and LabVIEW Real-Time continuously recorded power and energy and stored the values in memory. Data on the measured values of power and energy for a specified period of time were transmitted for analysis to a remote server via the ZigBee protocol.
